YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Position: Child Care Lead Teacher 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records.
  8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Follows all Altru Family YMCA policies and procedures.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law. Complete federal fingerprint background check.
  2. At least 18 years of age.
  3. CPR and First Aid certifications, and required training completed within 90 days of hire date.
  4. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
    with people from different backgrounds.

Full and Part Time Positions

 

Position: Youth Development/Aquatics Director  

Position Summary:
Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Youth Development programs that nurture the potential of every child and teen.

 

Essential Functions:
1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives for camp, youth special events, swim classes and water fitness classes.
2. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
3. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Conducts community outreach and educational opportunities with other community partners.
4. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
5. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
6. Works with the Buildings & Grounds Director in conducting and ensuring proper maintenance of the pool. Assists in maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and pool maintenance.
7. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
9. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
10. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events, and grant applications.
11. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
12. Provides staff leadership to the Program Committee.
13. Create, monitor and schedule all camp sessions and activities, adhering to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
14. Secures facilities and admission for camp field trips and events, including the securing of all transportation for field trips.
15. Purchases and maintains supplies for activities and camp t-shirts for distribution.
16. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. (Examples: program participation, volunteer tracking and scholarship assistance awarded).
17. Any other assigned duties by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
2. One to two years related experience preferred in coordination or supervision of youth development programs.
3. Minimum age requirement of 21.
4. Current Certified Pool Operator certification, experience in the management operation and maintenance of an aquatic facility, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
5. Current Certifications in: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
6. Experience in swimming lesson organization and registration.
7. The ability to attract, retain, lead & motivate quality staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
8. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
9. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
10. Proficient use of computers with working knowledge of Excel, Word and E-mail.
11. Must be able to speak, hear and understand the English language.
12. Completion of YMCA Team Leader Certification and program-specific and trainer certifications.
13. Any other assigned duties by the immediate supervisor.

 

Physical Demands:

Position: Lifeguard

Days/Times:

Various Days and Hours

Duties:

To provide a safe and friendly environment for members and guests during lap swim, family swim, open swim and other special aquatic events. Other responsibilities will include basic pool area and record upkeep, with any other assigned duties by the Aquatic Director as needed.

Requirements:

Must have a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a current First Aide Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or willingness to complete.

Position: Swim Instructor

Days/Times:

Various Days and Hours

Duties:

To provide a safe and friendly environment for participants during swimming lessons. Ability to teach all six levels of YMCA V6 Swim Lessons. You must have a strong desire to work with young children in a very challenging environment, be outgoing and an energetic person. Other responsibilities will include daily safety checks, evaluations of students, maintenance of swimming equipment, with any other assigned duties by the Aquatic Director.

Requirements:

Must have a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have a current First Aid Certification or willingness to complete.

Must have an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or YMCA Principles of Swimming or willingness to complete.

MEMBER SERVICES

Position: Member Services Representative

Days/Times:

Part time. Various Days and Hours

 

Position Summary: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants.  Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
  2. Conduct interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells memberships and YMCA Programming
  3. Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
  4. Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  5. Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
  6. Controls member/guest access to facility.
  7. May hand out locker keys and towels; may monitor the locker rooms as required.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
    segments of the community
  4. Previous customer service, sales or related experience.
  5. Basic knowledge of computers.
